This command can be executed from the SI Editor's Toolbar or Tools.menu.
When this command is selected or the Section is saved, the SI Editor verifies specific tagging and formatting requirements are being met. The SI Editor will also validate Sections that are "Read-Only" Sections. Validation will not occur on the following hidden text:
- Notes
- Units of Measure (English or Metric)
Validating on demand will indicate which hidden text (if any) was not validated. Formatted Tables that are contained within hidden text (such as an English or Metric Table), will not produce validation errors.
Rules
Section Contents
- No tags may appear outside SEC (or DOC, or OTH) tags.
- All Sections must have a Section title (STL). We don't currently look for and flag
- multiple Section titles, but we could add this extra validation.
- All Sections except for those in Divisions 00 and 01 must have three Parts (PRT).
Part or Subpart Titles
- All subparts and parts should have a set of title (TTL) tags. We don't currently verify that only a single set of title tags exists for each SPT or PRT, but we could add that extra validation.
Spacing
- Subpart titles should have a subpart number (digits (0-9), periods (.), and pound signs (#) are permitted) followed by three spaces and then some kind of text for the title. Ditto for parts, except that they begin "with the word "PART " (all upper case) before the number, and their numbers cannot contain periods (.). Some other tags (SUB tags, for example) are permitted inside TTL tags, provided that the other validation rules are met (see tags contents, below).
Tag Content
- All child tags are examined to make sure that they are permitted inside their parent tags. Transparent tags should be ignored here, but they are not.
- All beginning tags that should have ending tags are checked to make sure that they do (and vice versa). Tags that can appear alone (unpaired) are: AST/, END/, EOD/, MTA, NED, and PGE.
- Improperly nested (interlinked) tags are flagged as validation errors. Example:<TXT>...<ENG>..</TXT></ENG>. This really should not show up any more, because the Editor (for about 5 years) has prohibited you from inserting interlinked tags; and it also "fixes" them if they are found when you open a Section. In this context, the term "fixes" probably has about the same meaning for the Section specifier that it does for a young adult cat at the veterinarian's office: The final results of the Editor's "fix" most likely will not be what was wanted by the Section specifier, but it should make the Section comply with this validation rule.
References
- Reference (REF) tags are checked to be sure that they contain an ORG tag pair, followed by an equal number of RID and RTL tags. We don't currently verify that these RID and RTL tags are in the correct order.
- Reference Identifier (RID) tags are checked to verify they do not contain too many characters.
Submittals
- Submittal Descriptions (SD Number) are checked to verify the Submittal Number and Title match the designated Unified Submittal Descriptions cited in Section 01 33 00 Submittal Procedures, paragraph entitled "Definitions."
- Check for Submittal Items that only appear inside the Submittal Article.
- Check for Submittal Items that only appear outside the Submittal Article.
- Check for Submittals Items that contain too many characters.
- Checks for Hidden rows and columns.
- Checks for table rows merged to a height greater than one page.
- Checks for missing end tags
- Checks for Reference Identifiers (RID) that contain more than 30 characters
The SI Editor ignores redlined text during validation (so a Section should validate the same before or after Revisions are executed).
