This command can be executed from the SI Explorer's Sections menu and Right-click menu.

This dual purpose option depends on whether a Section or SI Document file is selected.  When a Section is selected, you can change the SectionA set of files within the Division of a Master or Job that covers specific aspects of construction number of the selected Section in the right-pane.

Enter Section Number

In the text field, you will enter the new MasterFormat™MasterFormat is used throughout the construction industry to format specifications for construction contract documents. The purpose of this format is to assist the user to organize information into distinct groups when creating contract documents, and to assist the user searching for specific information in consistent locations. The information contained in MasterFormat is organized in a standardized outline format within 50 Divisions (16 Divisions pre-2004). Each Division is subdivided into a number of Sections Section Number, based on the level selected below CSISpecsIntact Section formatting conforms to the Construction Specifications Institute’s (CSI) format MasterFormat.  When renaming a Section to use the current MasterFormat, the text box is pre-formatted so you only need to enter the numeric characters, no spaces or periods are required.

Rules and Warnings

  1. If the new Section number already exists in the Job, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing Section with that number.
  2. If you choose a number that does not conform to the numbering rules, a warning box will display.
  3. If the new Section number conflicts with the Jobs MasterFormat setting, a warning box will display.

CSI MasterFormat

The default selection for the CSI MasterFormat is set to Current.  The option to choose 1995 is there strictly for backward compatibility with older Jobs and MasterA group of standard Government agency (Master) Guide Specifications used in the preparation of a Job.   When Current is selected, choose the appropriate level indicating whether the Section will be Three, Four or Five Levels prior to entering the new Section Number.

Also Modify Section Contents

The options to change the number in the Section header, Section (SCN) tagsSpecsIntact relies on tags to control content, and formatting, automate processes, and generate reports. These special markers, like <SEC> and </SEC>, define elements and attributes within the specifications. Some tags, like <Page />, function independently. In essence, tags are the building blocks of SpecsIntact documents and References throughout the Job are selected by default.  Using these options will prevent unnecessary manual editing.

Rename SI Documents

When an SI Document is selected, you can change the name of the document.

How to Rename a Section

  1. From the SpecsIntact Explorer, select the Job or Master

  2. From the right-pane, select the Section you want to rename

  3. From the Sections menu, choose Rename, or right-clickTo press the right button of a mouse and release it to open a menu on the Section and choose Rename

  4. When the Rename window opens, the current Section Number and CSI MasterFormat level will be selected by default, before entering a new Section Number, select the appropriate CSI MasterFormat level

  5. Place the cursor in the Enter new number for Section field and enter the new Section Number

  6. Select OK

How to Rename an SI Document

  1. From the SpecsIntact Explorer, select the Job or Master

  2. From the right-pane, select the SI Document  you want to rename

  3. From the Sections menu, choose Rename, or right-clickTo press the right button of a mouse and release it to open a menu on the Section and choose Rename

  4. When the Rename window opens, place the cursor in the New Name field and enter the new name

  5. Select OK
